Best Spring Boots for Every Budget

Transitional weather is upon us and my feelings are complicated. Warmer temperatures provide me the pleasantry of having my hands and ankles exposed again, but on the flip side, it means I’m at war with my wardrobe. When my iPhone weather app reads “mid 60s” and “low 70s,” I know that’s code for “Pleasant—but what the heck do I wear?”
There is a silver lining here though, everyone. As a lover of shoes, I was delighted to discover the quickest solution for mastering the winter-to-spring transitional outfit: spring boots. With all the sophisticated prairie styles this season and the ever-chic elevation of a white bootie, a new pair of boots for spring gives a quick update to any ol’ outfit. I set out to find five pairs for spring 2019, but came back with 16. (What can I say? I love shoes.) Ahead, a round-up of all the best styles for every budget.
Metallic Western Booties
Few things compare to the fashion high of finding a pair of shoes that look five times more expensive than they actually are. Here, a pair of metallic, square-toed western booties for when your outfits need a sleek, futuristic edge.
Colorful Boots with a Geometric Heel
The geometric heel trend is in full force for spring. For a pop of color on Easter weekend and beyond, slip into these affordable ($64!) yellow suede booties. They’ll look great with your favorite black dress and a denim jacket for that effortless “yeah, I just threw this on” vibe.
Black Leather Western Chelsea Boots
The western silhouette trend is very much the rave right now and I’m here for it. For those looking for a failsafe pair, Mango’s pointed-toed western Chelsea boot hits the calf at precisely at the most flattering spot. They work with, literally, every springtime outfit, too.
Suede Slouchy Boots
Per the Instagram feeds of Eva Chen and Gigi Hadid, slouchy boots are having a big moment right now. Here, a neutral option for those looking to lean into the trend. Pair them with a sundress or tucked in jeans.
Leopard Print Booties
Let your exposed ankles take a walk on the wild side. Ideal for transitional temperatures, what with their winter-y pattern but spring-y cut, these leopard print, chunky heeled booties will add animalistic flare to all minimalist ensembles.
Squared-Toe Boots With a Tie-Dye Marble Heel
For the forever wild child, these cream-colored boots feature a squared-toe shape with a tie-dye marble heel. Wear these to an art gallery opening or when you’re exploring a new city for a truly chic adventure.
Beige Booties
Add something clean and minimal to balance out this season’s animal print and logo-mania trends. Nimble and versatile, these two-inch boots from & Other Stories have a neutral palette and modern feel that looks good with a floral dress.
Undercover Rain Boots
Disguised as an every day patent-leather black bootie, this pair is actually 100 percent waterproof. The April showers might cause your hair to frizz and all (we have some tips for that), but at least your style can’t be dampened. The next time you’re caught in the rain, make it fashion with these shoes.
Black Ankle Boots
This loafer-meets-boot creation is the ultimate office-appropriate shoe. It stops right at the ankles and the closed-toe design is sleek and unique with a badass kind of feel. Style them with your favorite power suit or ripped jeans and a leather jacket for casual Fridays.
Dr. Martens X Marc Jacobs Patent Leather Boots
I’m a big believer of staying in my lane when it comes to writing about fashion, so I’ll admit that lace-up boots have never been my forte. That being said, this lavender patent leather boot from the Dr. Martens x Marc Jacobs collaboration is so delightfully refreshing that even I’m rethinking my stance on combat boots. And I must be in good company because this style is quickly selling out everywhere.
Snakeskin Kitten-Heel Booties
These sleek kitten heels feature green earthy hues, and if New York Fashion Week was any indication, you’ll see this palette a lot come fall 2019. Be ahead of the trend and start wearing them now with crop jeans and linen jumpsuits.
White Crocodile-Effect Leather Boots
I spent two years hunting down the perfect pair of white boots—and finally found it from the recently launched label Labucq. (And I love them with the enthusiasm of 50 exclamation points.) The slanted heel coupled with a crocodile-embossed pointed toe mean these ankle boots can be dressed up or down and paired with just about anything.
Blue Patent Leather Boots
Lean into springtime pastels with these playful patent leather boots. Shiny yet sleek, this outfit-making style consistently sells out on Dear Frances’ website, so make a beeline to purchase them while they’re still in stock.

14 Pairs of Sandals So Comfortable, You Can Actually Walk All Day in Them

Finding a comfortable sandal often requires trial and error, blisters and foot cramps. You don’t have time for that. To make your summer shopping easier, I’ve found 14 pairs of stylish shoes that also check off the comfort box. From the latest pair of Birkenstocks to a cute little kitten heel, these pairs cater to anyone who desires functionality and style.
Santorini Infinity Slide Sandal
For a minimalist slide you can wear every day, try this one by Kaanas. One of our editors said, “It’s surprisingly comfy, thanks to a cushioned button,” which means your feet will still be blister-free by EOD. The slide comes in two color colors—a tan brown and white—just in case you have enough black shoes. Note the stitching on the leather pebbled straps for that extra special detail.
Anastasia Comfort Sandals
With “comfort” in its name, these Greek-style sandals won’t steer you wrong. A slightly elevated rubber sole gives your feet support while the straps ensure the shoe stays put off as you walk. The beige color will match many of your summer outfits, which means the cost per wear will be (basically) negligible.
Flatform Universal
First spotted on Anna Sui’s spring 2019 runway, these Teva collab sandals are finally here. The limited-edition style takes its cues from nature’s vibrant flora and fauna as well as Polynesian prints. You can choose between this flat form or a thicker one, depending on how much height you want. Both will be equally comfy.
Melissa x Fila Sandals
For a sporty take on comfy sandals, give this Melissa x Fila collab a try. Everything about it screams chunky and thick, meaning ample cushioned support. A velcro front makes it easy to slip on and off while the colorful PVC design gives it a cool streetwear look.
The Lume
Everyone needs a dressy sandal option for date nights, and this printed leather shoe is perfect for that post-dinner stroll. It has a low-block heel, so you’re not in pain after walking for 15 minutes, and ankle straps to keep everything in place. Already have too many cognac-colored shoes? Shop this in a pretty navy or white.
Olive Suede Mules
This suede mule is exclusive to Net-a-Porter. The sandal is very lightweight and forms nicely to your feet, so it doesn’t make that slapping noise as you walk. I have the shoe in this color and love it so much I’m tempted to pick up the pastel blue version too.
The Stacey Wedge Slide Sandal
These shoes pass the cobble stone street test, so you can definitely walk in them anywhere. Fans tout its comfiness thanks to a wedge heel and a single big strap across the feet. The streamlined silhouette makes it easy to wear with anything, from a pair of cropped jeans to a midi skirt.
Nelly Slide Sandal
Step up your neutrals game by injecting a print like leopard into your footwear. These heels have a slight padding, so prolonged walks won’t hurt your feet. Diagonal straps and a sleek toe loop (trendy for the season) add the finishing touches to a beautiful summer sandal.
Birkenstock Rotterdam Sandal
Rick Owens teamed up with Birkenstock to create a fashun-meets-comfort street style shoe. These went down the spring 2019 runways and are now available in new colors like a coral and beige combo for the season. Style these with denim shorts or a pair of mom jeans.
Anica Sandal
This Cole Haan shoe is one of Nordstrom’s most customer-reviewed sandals. They’re quote, “well-made, comfortable, and more elegant than your average sandal.” These shoes come in six colors and appear to suit those with wide feet, though this fit will vary from person to person. The design is crafted from a soft, smooth leather and fitted with a comfortable padded footbed and flexible sole.
Saint
For a comfortable mule you can walk hours in, try Tamara Mellon’s “Saint” sandal, which has a 2.17 inch heel. Two straps make the shoe extra secure on your feet and the versatile black hue will match with everything, from a white summer dress to a denim midi skirt.
Leo Platform Espadrille Sandal
A flat form espadrille is great for those who don’t do well with arched high heels. The 2.5-inch platform will still give you a boost in height without making you stand on your tip-toes. This pair has an adjustable ankle strap and a cushioned footbed.
Glyn Wedge Espadrilles
These Chloé sky-high espadrilles will make you feel like you’re walking on clouds. They’re not heavy and the fun fringe canvas strap adds a unique touch to the espadrille shoe. I’ve had mine for over three years and can attest to their wearability, from the streets of Europe to the plush garden lawns at weddings.
Leather Straps Sandals
Mango makes the most delicate-looking sandal to wear with your slip dresses and silky separates. This leather strap sandal has a wearable kitten heel, neither too low nor too high. Whether you choose to wear them to work or to weddings, it’s a good summer shoe to keep on hand—or, in this case, foot.

Cool White Sneakers That Will Still Look Great With a Little Scuffing

A white sneaker is like a white T-shirt—you’re always searching for the perfect one, and it never goes out of style. The versatile staples are the building blocks to any outfit and without them, well, it’s like the world your wardrobe isn’t complete. Whether you prefer your white sneaker crisp and clean (a tried-and-true tip: use Mr. Clean magic erasers to gently erase stains and dirt build-up), or a bit scuffed like those from Golden Goose, the street-style shoe never looks stale. Especially, if this season’s newest selections come with cool designs like topstitching or logos. Ahead, 13 of the best white sneakers that are worth the perpetual cleaning cycle.
One Star Lugged Ox Sneakers
Looking for sneakers to give you a boost in height? Try this slightly elevated pair from Converse. Unlike the brand’s flatter sole styles, this one will give you added inches. Wear it with your favorite spring/summer skirt in lieu of heels.
Madox Lace Up Espadrilles
For sneakers that work for summer, I present to you these espadrilles. The esparto rope gives this leather shoe a casual and laidback vibe, whether you wear this on the street or to the beach. The pastel pink on the back adds soft coloring.
Diamond Patent-Trimmed Leather Sneakers
JIMMY CHOO
What makes this sneaker unique are the transparent soles that are made to resemble the shape of diamonds. Though this sneaker itself doesn’t contain any of the precious stones (imagine losing a diamond on the streets…the horror!), the sneakers don’t lack in sparkles or style. The laces are threaded with glittered silver.
Rothy’s The Sneaker
Meghan Markle likes wearing her Rothy’s, so we like wearing our Rothy’s. Seriously, half of our editors own a pair or two. My personal favorite are these slip-on canvas options, which are suited for everyday wear. I’ve worn them with everything, from leggings on the weekends to jeans at the office.
Adrianna Sneakers
Velcro sneakers are cool again, and that’s not a surprise if they look like this pair. The colored topstitching adds an artsy edge to the plain kicks and makes the straps pop against the shoes. Even better—not having to tie laces means you’re out the door faster.
Rainbow Wave Sneaker
For sneakers that will enhance your mood as soon as you slip them on, try this rainbow and sunburst splattered pair from Soludos. The design was created by Brooklyn-based embroidery artist Marie Sophie Lockhart and has all the “good vibes” to jumpstart your day with. If you’re ready for unique white sneakers, these shoes are waiting for you.
This high-top sneaker has a major plot twist: the laces are on the back instead of the front. That alone is enough to make me do a double-take on these. Wear with a dress that has slits because you don’t want to hide these babies.
Ailbe 4 Printed Sneaker
Hummingbirds and rose-gold colored laces give this sneaker a feminine vibe, if that is what you’re looking for. This sweet-as-can-be footwear pairs nicely with more masculine pieces in your wardrobe like trousers or a blazer suit set.
Translucent High Top Sneakers
Take the opportunity to show off your funky collection of socks with this see-through high top sneaker. The footwear maintains that clean, crisp white look, but not in a boring conformist way. You’ll stand out in a sea of white sneakers with this one.
Alexia Logo Sneaker
Calvin Klein might be closing its high-end line, but that doesn’t mean the brand’s disappearing completely. You can still get a pair of shoes covered in the fashion house’s logo with this chunky platform select. Embrace the ’90s dad sneaker with a modern twist.
Superstar Genuine Shearling Trim Sneaker
The addition of shearling to a white sneaker is genius. Your foot will a) be warm b) look cool walking around in this furry footwear. Though it might not be practical for warm weather, it’s a good pair to have whenever the temperatures are a little cooler. Is it weird I want to desperately pet this shoe?
Army Cutout Leather Low-Top Sneakers
The perforated holes on this Rag & Bone sneaker will let your feet air out, so they’re not trapped in a pool of sweat. The openings add a cool design to the sides and top of the shoe, too. You can skip wearing socks with this sneaker.
K-Street Sneakers
On the opposite end of the spectrum, this high-top sneaker is a little less intense than the Nike pair. It has that classic silhouette with simple laces, but a bold red patch and tab on the back keeps it colorful and spirited. Don’t be afraid to get these a little scuffed.

Snow Boots You’ll Actually Want to Wear This Winter

The only term more shudder-inducing to fashion lovers than “crocs” is “snow boot,” which is why you see so many stylish women battling winter weather in unlined rain boots. Great news, though: There are plenty of boots that can withstand a blizzard that aren’t completely ugly. Ahead, we’ve rounded up several fashionable and weatherproof options to help you survive this winter in style.
Neoprene Insert Boots
These snow boots, exclusive to Barneys, are currently en route to my apartment. In a practical sense, you won’t have to worry about any accidental slips or falls, thanks to the rubber soles. Meanwhile, the rib-knit collar and neoprene sock insert make this traditional hiking boot style that much chicer.
Madrid Waterproof Insulated Bootie
Not what you were picturing when they said snow boots, huh? Yes, this waterproof insulated bootie is absolutely made for rain and snow. Say goodbye to the days of schleping heavy commuter shoes—you can wear these babies straight into the office.
Wedge Chelsea Boot
Chelsea boot, but wrap it in waterproof leather. This pair is surprisingly easy to walk in, and will look good with a skirt or jeans while you pretend to not be freezing.
Waterproof Hiker Boot
The kind of shoes you won’t be able to stop touching because they’re so damn soft. The pumice stone is a refreshing color choice from the black and brown boots we’re typically used to, but if you’re a creature of habit they’re also available in those shades.
Shearling Cap-Toe Hiking Booties
Love a good ol’ leather-and-shearling snow boot. This one is practically your favorite sweater turned into a combat boot.
Blanche Shearling-Lined Glittered Suede Ankle Boots
The shearling on the inside (warmth) and suede on the outside (style) makes these the ideal pair of snow boots you’ll wish you could keep wearing come July.
Icon Waterproof Boots
Most people buy Timberlands for their classic look, but many forget they’re also durable, waterproof, and built to withstand the most extreme weather conditions.
Shellista III Tall Winter Boots
North Face’s 17-inch tall winter boots will go with practically any outfit. Yes, they’re suede, but the suede is waterproof—which means you and your shoes are protected from any wet conditions you find yourself in this winter.
Waterproof Cold-Weather Booties
Look up “statement boot” in the dictionary, and you’ll find these suede-rubber hybrid booties featuring lace and fringe detailing. They’re definitely not for shy-types. And yet, super practical.
Joan of Arctic Waterproof Boot
The kind of “boots with the fur” that T-Pain was referring to (we’re sure of it) that will keep your feet toasty in negative temperatures.
Saltwater Brooke Duck Boot
Found: a duck boot you’ll actually want to wear in a refreshingly neutral (but not boring) color scheme.
Chelsea Rain Boots
These chelsea rain boots (that don’t actually look like rain boots) are 30-degrees-and-below-approved. They double as snow boots, and I can confirm the incredibly plush liner will make them the warmest shoes you’ll ever own.
Shearling and Leather-Trimmed Suede Ankle Boots
I’ll take these beautiful suede-and-shearling ankle boots in a size 10, thanks for asking.
Leather & Faux-Fur Cuff Lace Up Booties
When you don’t want to fully commit to the knee-high tall boot, Marc Fisher’s round-toe lace up booties go perfectly with a chunky sweater and a pair of skinny jeans.
Waterproof Chukka Boots
Introducing a hiking/duck boot mix that’s subtle enough to wear daily. It has quickly become a go-to boot, with reviewers claiming that they’re extremely comfy and perfect for people who have wide feet.

The Best Sneakers of 2019

Sneakers have always had a permanent spot in my shoe closet, next to the snow boots, black heels, and ballet flats. They’re always a reliable source of comfort, whether I’m walking back from pilates class or going to an industry event after work. But over the years, I’ve added trendier styles into the rotation, like a pair of Koio dad sneakers and velcro kicks. Last year, the dad sneaker reigned supreme, and now that 2019 has arrived, brands are scrambling to release the next “It” shoe. Based on what’s available to shop now, the runways, and the pre-fall 2019 collections, we’ve rounded up the 10 sneakers contenders for this year.
Tie Dye
There’s no escaping this year’s tie dye trend. The design has trickled down from tops to footwear, giving you gloriously colorful sneakers like these Pharrell x Adidas kicks. It’s just what you need to make your white summer dress pop.
Exaggerated Soles
Exaggerated soles are still in for next season, and this black-and-white sneaker manages to embody the trend in a sleek way. I’ll be taking bets on which of Wang’s muses, from Bella Hadid to Kaia Gerber, will be wearing these in 2019.
Buckle Details
Buckles were all over the runways, present on boots and heels at Alexander McQueen, Sies Marjan, and Louis Vuitton, and now sneakers are getting the buckle treatment, too. If you’re an early adopter of the trend, snag this Zadig & Voltaire pair. They’re a less chunky, but equally edgy alternative to combat boots for winter.
Living Coral Colorways
This Adidas sneakers is a must-have: a running-inspired design with a comfortable and supportive sock-like fit in a pretty coral shade (living coral is the color of the year, haven’t you heard?) that helps it stand out from your collection of black footwear.
Sneaker-Boots
Are they sneakers, boots, or both? These chunky lace-up kicks from MSGM make a streetwear statement, if that’s what you’re aiming for. Pair with crop jeans or wear them under a knitted sweater dress, either way they’ll take your look from plain to high-fashion.
The Espadrille Hybird
While we count sandals and flip-flops as practical vacation shoes, this new espadrille sneaker may be replacing both in our suitcase. The woven texture never goes out of style and a versatile white color makes for easy pairing with any outfit. This shoe will do wonders when it comes to creating extra space in your carry on for souvenirs.
Springtime Prints
Dad sneakers, but make them ultra feminine. The florals on this shoe are a nice contrast to the color-blocking patterns we’ve seen on previous chunky-soled kicks. The print provides an overall lightness to the shoe and reminds us spring/summer isn’t too far off. Just two more months, right?
Hiker Elements
According to several fashion experts, one of the biggest sneaker trends for 2019 is the incorporation of tech detailing and hiker elements. Take this Balenciaga footwear, for example, which is basically a more stylish version of your beat-up hiking shoe. Look out for this year’s everyday kicks to feature sturdy and functional designs.
Return to Minimalism
Will 2019 see the return of a more minimalist sneaker? Yes, in the form of this modern slip-on shoe. The insoles are made with memory fit foam and it features a flexible rubber outsole, so they don’t feel stiff. Perfect for your commute to work or picking the kids up from soccer practice.
Snakeskin Print
This Veronica Beard sneaker comes straight from the pre-fall 2019 collection. Which means that snakeskin print will still be in two seasons from now. Here, it’s masterfully incorporated into a sneaker form. The speckled shoe laces add an extra detail to make this footwear one of a kind. Don’t hesitate to purchase now, as it will sell out soon.
